Red Wings ink Sheldon Dries to two-year, two-way deal

The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to a two-year, two-way contract with centre Sheldon Dries, the team announced on Monday.

The deal will carry an average annual value of $775,000.

Dries, 30, spent the entire 2023-24 season with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks, finishing amongst the team’s leaders with 29 goals (1st), 23 assists (7th), 52 points (T3rd) and a plus-six rating (5th).

He also recorded three points (one goal, two assists) in six post-season appearances with Abbotsford.

In 2022-23, Dries spent a majority of the year with the Vancouver Canucks, tallying 17 points (11 goals, six assists) through 63 games.

Dries also spent time with the Colorado Avalanche through his first three seasons, logging 26 points (16 goals, 10 assists) through 122 appearances. The five-foot-nine, 180-pound forward also racked up 204 points (113 goals, 91 assists) through 274 AHL games — split between the Texas Stars, Colorado Eagles and Canucks.
