Red Wings sign defenceman William Lagesson to one-year contract

The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenceman William Lagesson to a one-year, $775,000 contract, the team announced Monday.

Lagesson split this past season between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks and recorded four assists in 40 games.

The Ducks claimed him off waivers from the Maple Leafs on March 8.

He also registered one assist in five games with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

Lagesson was drafted in the fourth round, 91st overall, by the Edmonton Oilers in 2014.

The 28-year-old from Gothenburg, Sweden, has zero goals and 11 assists in 100 career games over four seasons with the Oilers, Montreal Canadiens, Maple Leafs and Ducks.
