The Vancouver Canucks may look to add some goalie depth before camp opens next month.
Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal, speaking on Sportsnet 650’s Halford and Brough show Tuesday morning, reported that the Canucks have begun “poking around the goalie market,” possibly looking to invite someone to camp on a professional tryout.
Currently, the Canucks have Thatcher Demko and Arturs Silovs set as their tandem at the NHL level. However, not much is known about Demko’s status since he was injured in Game 1 against Nashville.
“I’m not super concerned about Demko, I just think you have to protect yourself” with a backup goalie, Dhaliwal said. “The red flag is not out, he should be OK, but maybe his rehab is not going as fast as some like.”
Martin Jones, Kevin Lankinen and Antti Raanta are some of the veteran goalies who remain unsigned.
