Flames goaltender Dan Vladar to start opener vs. Canucks

Dan Vladar will get the first crack in net for the Calgary Flames.

Flames head coach Ryan Huska confirmed that Vladar will start between the pipes for the Flames when they take on the Vancouver Canucks in their season opener on Wednesday.

With Jacob Markstrom traded to the New Jersey Devils this off-season, Vladar has been in competition with 23-year-old netminder Dustin Wolf for the Flames’ starting job.

In 20 games as Markstrom’s primary backup last season, Vladar was 8-9-2 with a 3.62 GAA last season with an .882 save percentage.

Wolf, a seventh-round selection by the Flames in 2019, played 17 games for the Flames last season, posting a .893 save percentage and 3.03 goals-against average.

You can watch Vladar and the Flames take on the Canucks live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+, starting at 7 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. MT.
