Report: Penguins’ Crosby sees Oilers’ McDavid getting to 170 points

Sidney Crosby watched Connor McDavid put up 153 points last season and says he doesn’t see why the Oilers captain can’t get to 170 this season.

“I mean, I didn’t think 150 was going to be in the cards for him but he found a way to get there,” Crosby said to Mike Zeisberger of NHL.com. “So, I don’t think anything is out of the question for him as far as numbers are concerned.

“He just finds a way to find another level time and time again, so I would never bet against him.”

McDavid’s 153 were the most since former Penguins great Mario Lemieux had 161 in 1995-96.

Crosby, 36, reiterated his opinion that McDavid is the best player in the game.

“Yeah, I think it’s hard to argue that one,” Crosby said. “I mean, you’ve got Nate (MacKinnon) and Leon (Draisaitl) and some other guys who are right there, but I think he’s proven that.”

The three-time Stanley Cup champion, who has also won junior and senior world championship titles, as well as World Cup and Olympic gold, also repeated his desire to play alongside McDavid while representing Canada in a best-on-best event.

“Hopefully we get that opportunity,” he said.
