Sabres’ Giergensons exits game vs. Penguins with lower-body injury

Buffalo Sabres forward Zemgus Giergensons was ruled out of Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third period because of a lower-body injury.

Girgensons, who has two goals in 19 games this year, played his final shift in the second period.

The Sabres are thin at forward, and played Friday’s game with just 11 forwards and seven defencemen.

Forward Jordan Greenway didn’t play because of an undisclosed injury.

After the 3-2 win, Sabres coach Don Granato said he had no update on Greenway or Girgensons. He said he expected to have to make a recall from AHL Rochester on Saturday.

Buffalo already is without key forwards Tage Thompson (upper-body injury) and Jack Quinn (Achilles)
