Sabres’ Tage Thompson to ‘miss significant time’ with injury

Buffalo Sabres star centre Tage Thompson will “miss significant time” with an injury, head coach Don Granato announced after Tuesday’s loss to the Bruins.

Thompson suffered two injuries in the game.

In the first period, he briefly left the game after getting tangled up with Bruins defenceman Charlie McAvoy. At the time, the Sabres said Thompson was questionable to return with a lower-body injury.

But he did return to the game, only to take a shot to the hand and leave again — this time for good — with an upper-body injury.

Thompson has 12 points in 16 games this season after setting new career-hights with 47 goals and 94 points.

The Sabres entered the season with playoff aspirations after missing out on the post-season by just one point in 2022-23. However, after the loss to the Bruins, the Sabres dropped to 7-8-1 and remained outside the playoff picture in the East.

The Sabres return to action Friday when they visit the Winnipeg Jets to open a three-game road trip.
