The San Jose Sharks have signed forward Carl Grundström to a two-year contract worth $3.6 million, the team announced Thursday.
“Carl brings consistent competitiveness to our lineup,” said Sharks General Manager Mike Grier. “He showed that he is able to contribute not just in the offensive zone, but is also difficult to play against on the defensive end. We’re excited to add him to the organization.”
The six-foot, 26-year-old had his signing rights acquired by the Sharks in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings — where he spent the past five seasons of his career — on June 27.
Grundström appeared in 50 games for the Kings in the 2023-2024 season, recording eight goals and four assists. He also played two games with their minor league affiliate, the Ontario Reign, netting a goal and an assist.
The Umea, Sweden native was a Toronto Maple Leafs second-round pick from the 2016 NHL draft. After playing two seasons with Frolunda of the Swedish Hockey League, he joined the AHL squad, the Toronto Marlies, at the end of the 2017-2018 season.
Grundstöm was later dealt to the Kings in a trade that sent defender Jake Muzzin to Toronto in January 2019.
Over Grundström’s career, he has appeared in 236 career NHL games scoring 67 points, while tallying 72 points through 99 AHL games.
