The San Jose Sharks have signed goaltender Eetu Makiniemi to a one-year, two-way deal, the club has announced.
The financial terms of the contract were not disclosed by the club.
“We are excited to sign Eetu,” Sharks GM Mike Grier said via a release. “He is a player who showed great promise before his injury last season. We look forward to his continued development in the upcoming year.”
Makiniemi split this season between the NHL and AHL, playing two games with San Jose this season and posting one win with a 2.13 goals against average and .906 save percentage. With San Jose AHL affiliate Barracuda, the Finnish netminder went 8-10-3 with a 2.96 GAA and .900 save percentage.
Acquired as part of a package from Carolina in the Brent Burns deal, the 24-year-old was set to become a restricted free agent upon the expiration of his deal.
