The Ottawa Senators have re-signed forward Matthew Highmore to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced Thursday.
The deal is worth $775,000 at the NHL level and $400,000 in the AHL.
Highmore, who had signed a one-year deal with the Senators last summer, was slated to become an unrestricted free agent Monday.
The 28-year-old from Halifax appeared in seven games with the Senators this past season and registered two assists. He primarily played for the AHL’s Belleville Senators with 31 points (nine goals and 22 assists) in 43 games.
“Matthew and our coaching staffs in both Belleville and Ottawa have mutual familiarity,” said Steve Staios, Senators president of hockey operations and general manager, in a release. “He routinely brings energy, is a strong penalty killer and has demonstrated good offensive prowess in the AHL.”
Highmore made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks as an undrafted free agent during the 2017-18 season.
He has 29 points (12 goals and 17 assists) in 146 career games over six seasons with the Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues and Senators.
