The Ottawa Senators have signed goaltender Anton Forsberg to a one-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday. The contract is worth $900,000 for the 2021-22 season.
Ottawa claimed Forsberg off of waivers from the Winnipeg Jets back on March 17, and has played in six games during his first season with the Senators. The 28-year-old had a 2-3-1 record in his six starts, and posted a 3.18 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage.
“Anton’s addition has been a steadying one for us this season,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion via a team-released statement. “He possesses a calm and controlled playing style, has good size and ability, is a tireless worker with good habits and is a good teammate. He’s worked hard in practice to earn his playing opportunities and this contract extension.”
Forsberg was a seventh-round selection of the Columbus Blue Jackets back in the 2011 NHL Draft, and has 54 career games under his belt with the Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes and Senators. He has a career record of 14-28-5.
Forsberg has been dealing with a lower-body injury as of late, with his last start coming back on April 12 in a 4-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets.
