Less than a week after locking up their first-overall selection in Macklin Celebrini, the San Jose Sharks have inked their second pick in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft.
Defenceman Sam Dickinson, 18, was signed to a three-year entry-level deal after being scooped up by the Sharks 11th overall at June’s draft in Las Vegas, after GM Mike Grier moved up from the team’s original spot at 14.
Scoring 70 points in 68 games alongside the OHL champion London Knights last season, Dickinson’s draft stock rose during his team’s playoff run, particularly after his point-per-game showing at the 2024 Memorial Cup tournament in Saginaw in the spring.
He earned a spot on the OHL Second All-Star team after leading London defencemen in points and finishing fifth among all Knights skaters on the offensive end.
The Toronto native collected 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 18 post-season games, including six points (two goals, four assists) in a four-game sweep in the championship round to help London win the league title.
