Stars re-sign forward Sam Steel to one-year contract

The Dallas Stars are keeping forward Sam Steel after re-signing him to a one-year, $1.2 million contract Monday.

Steel joined the Stars on a one-year deal last summer and recorded 24 points (nine goals and 15 assists) in 77 games during the regular season.

The 26-year-old from Ardrossan, Alta., also had one goal and four assists in 19 playoff games.

“Sam was an integral member of our team during the regular season and playoffs,” Stars general manager Jim Nill said in a release. “He’s a player we can trust in any situation. We’re looking forward to bringing him back for another season in Dallas.”

Steel was drafted in the first round, 30th overall, by the Anaheim Ducks in 2016.

He has 117 points (43 goals and 74 assists) in 339 career games over six seasons with the Ducks, Minnesota Wild and Stars.
