Tampa Bay Lightning sign Derrick Pouliot to one-year, two-way contract

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed veteran defenceman Derrick Pouliot to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced on Monday.

During the 2023-2024 season, the six-foot-one blueliner suited up for 64 games with the AHL’s Texas Stars, posting nine goals and 37 assists for 46 points — all of which were team-highs among defencemen.

Pouliot, a native of Estevan, Sask., also appeared in five contests for the Dallas Stars last season and averaged 12:08 time on ice while averaging one blocked shot per game.

The 30-year-old was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins, eighth overall in the 2012 NHL draft and won the Stanley Cup with the team in 2015-2016.

In total, Pouliot has suited up for 226 NHL career games and has made stops with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues, Vegas Golden Knights, Seattle Kraken, San Jose Sharks and the Stars.
