The Calgary Flames will be opening their second-round series against the Edmonton Oilers without defenceman Christopher Tanev.
The veteran defender was a participant at practice on Tuesday skating on a pairing with Oliver Kylington. The 32-year-old left Game 6 of the Flames’ first-round series against the Dallas Stars with an undisclosed injury which forced him to miss Game 7.
Tanev scored six goals and added 22 assists in 82 games during the regular season. He does not have a goal or an assist in six postseason games.
In positive news for the Oilers, Leon Draisaitl was in the lineup for Game 1 as he has been dealing with a leg injury during the first period of Game 6 against the Los Angeles Kings and has been playing through visible discomfort ever since.
Despite that, he set up the game-winning goal in Game 6 to extend the Oilers’ season and then skated nearly 23 minutes in Game 7 — second only to Connor McDavid on the team — contributing an assist and a plus-two rating.
