WWE pays tribute to Gaudreau on Monday Night Raw in Calgary

In WWE’s return to Calgary, Sami Zayn made sure to pay tribute to Johnny Gaudreau on Monday Night Raw.

The Canadian wrestler walked to the ring wearing the No. 13 Gaudreau jersey, which the NHL winger wore for nine seasons with the Flames as “Johnny” chants rained down at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Gaudreau was killed when a vehicle struck him and his brother Matthews while riding their bikes in their hometown of Salem, N.J., in late August.

WWE and NHL reporter Jackie Redmond paid tribute to Johnny and Matthew, speaking on how much the former Flames forward meant to the city of Calgary while showing the memorial put together by fans in tribute to the brothers.

Their deaths have been marked by a prolonged period of mourning across the hockey world.

Gaudreau, often referred to as “Johnny Hockey” by fans, was drafted by the Flames in 2011 and spent eight full seasons in Calgary before signing with the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2022 off-season.

Sean M. Higgins, 43, had his pre-trial detention hearing postponed until Friday, Sept. 13, with Higgins remaining detained until then.

Police allege Higgins was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and charged with two counts of death by auto, along with reckless driving, possession of an open container and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle.
