Easton Cowan may not be going into the record book, but no one can deny the extraordinary nature of the London Knights star's latest feat.
The Toronto Maple Leafs prospect tied Doug Gilmour's record of 55 consecutive games with a point in the OHL when he assisted on Sam O'Reilly's goal in the second period on Wednesday night against the visiting Owen Sound Attack. Cowan added another assist later in the second period, and the Knights went on to win 3-0.
Cowan's streak is not considered an official record because it has taken place over the course of two seasons. Gilmour went 55 in a row with the Cornwall Royals in 1982-83.
Cowan missed the Knights' last four games with a lower-body injury before making his return Wednesday. He's gearing up for the Canadian junior team selection camp next week, and is considered a virtual lock to play in the world junior championship starting later this month in Ottawa.
The OHL's most valuable player in the regular season and playoffs last season, Cowan, 19 was sent back to London this year by the Leafs because he is not old enough to play with the AHL Marlies. He's part of a first-place Knights team that has won 19 games in a row.
Cowan can, unofficially, break Gilmour's record on Friday against the visiting Oshawa Generals.
The Leafs picked Cowan in the first round (28th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft.
