Canada loses bronze in Olympic short-track relay after video review

Canada was denied a bronze medal in the short-track speedskating mixed relay at the Beijing Olympics after the team was penalized.

A review of a collision between Canada and Hungary resulted in the penalty for the Canadians, pushing Hungary into the bronze-medal spot.

Canada was penalized for pushing from behind and causing contact with Hungary.

Florence Brunelle, Kim Boutin, Steven Dubois and Jordan Pierre-Gilles skated for Canada in the final on Saturday.

China won the four-team final, giving the host country its first gold medal. Italy finished second.

Wu Dajing edged Italy’s Pietro Sighel by .016 seconds. That’s half a skate blade.

Qu Chunyu, Fan Kexin and Ren Ziwei joined Wu for the historic victory. The small number of Chinese fans at Capital Indoor Arena cheered and waved tiny flags.

The mixed relay was making its Olympic debut.
