When they needed it most, Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson got back to their winning ways to power Canada into the round of 16 in Olympic beach volleyball competition.
The Toronto duo coasted past Czechia in Saturday’s lucky loser match, taking a straight-set win (21-15, 21-12) just hours after being swiftly beaten by Latvia at Eiffel Tower Stadium.
The Canadians (2-2 at the Olympics) were able to rebound from their straight-set defeat earlier in the day by picking up a crucial opening-set win over Czechia.
Canada greeted Czechia with a pair of aces in the early stages of the second set and never looked back, leading the rest of the way to collect its second straight-set victory of the tournament.
Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson will now play in the round of 16.
