Canadian Laurie Blouin is one step closer to returning to the Olympic podium in Women’s Slopestyle.
The reigning Olympic silver medallist advanced to the final round with a seventh-place finish in qualification. The top 12 snowboarders after two runs — with the better score of the two runs counted — advanced to the final, which will be contested Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Blouin, from Stoneham, Que., posted a 66.85 score on her first run then made a nearly-five-point improvement with a 71.55 on her second run. That put her only 0.3 points behind American Julia Marino for sixth place.
New Zealand’s Zoi Sadowski-Synnott — who won bronze at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Games — is in first place after qualification with a score of 86.75, more than five points clear of second-place Kokomo Murase of Japan.
Two other Canadians competed in the event but didn’t qualify for the final. Jasmine Baird of Georgetown, Ont., finished 15th with a score of 49.50 while Brooke Voigt of Fort McMurray, Alta., finished 22nd with a score of 37.11.
