Canada’s women’s hockey team has suffered a potentially big blow in the first game of the Olympic tournament.
Veteran forward Melodie Daoust was forced to exit Thursday’s game against Switzerland after a collision in the second period.

While skating the puck into the offensive zone, Daoust was hit by Swiss defenceman Sarah Forster. Daoust was slow to get up and skated slowly to the bench, holding her right arm while making her way to the locker room.
Hockey Canada did not provide an update on Daoust after the game.
Daoust is competing in her third Olympic Games. She was named tournament MVP at the 2018 Games in PyeongChang after scoring three goals and seven points to help Canada win silver and she also won the MVP award at the 2021 World Championships.
