Canadian swim star Summer McIntosh continued to show she's poised for a huge Paris Olympics on Saturday at the Southern Zone South Sectional Championships in Orlando.
The 17-year-old McIntosh won the women's 100-metre freestyle in 54.48 seconds, less than a 10th of a second off her personal best, before capturing gold about 20 minutes later in the 200-metre breaststroke with a personal-best time of 2 minutes 27.23 seconds.
Neither of the events are McIntosh specialties. She won four medals in different events at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships.
On Thursday at the Southern Zone meet, McIntosh became the first swimmer since 2010 to defeat American star Katie Ledecky in the 800-metre freestyle.
McIntosh and most other top Olympic contenders are skipping this week's World Aquatics Championships in Qatar.
The Toronto native first made waves at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo when she competed for Canada at just 14.
McIntosh has grown into one of the biggest stars in the sport — highlighted by her world record time in the 400m individual medley — and she represents one of Canada's best medal hopes for this summer's Olympics in Paris.
