The Canadian women's soccer team will be missing an experienced defender for its Olympic opener against New Zealand on Thursday.
The team announced Jayde Riviere has been ruled out after suffering an ankle injury during a pre-Olympic match against Nigeria on July 17.
Shelina Zadorsky will replace the Manchester United player on the roster.
Riviere, 23, has 45 caps with the national team and was part of Canada's Olympic gold medal-winning squad in 2021 in Tokyo.
It's been a rough year for Riviere, who also missed the CONCACAF W Gold Cup due to injury.
Canada also will not have coach Bev Priestman against New Zealand after she withdrew from the match in the midst of a drone scandal.
Assistant coach Andy Spence will be at the helm.
