Canada’s Jennifer Abel finished in third place in the semifinals of the women’s three-metre springboard diving on Saturday and will move on to the final round at the Tokyo Olympics.
Abel capped off Saturday’s round with a score of 341.40, trailing only China’s Shi Tingmao (371.45) and Wang Han (346.85).
The final round is scheduled for Sunday at 2 a.m. ET / 11 p.m. PT.
The 29-year-old Abel already has a medal in the Tokyo Games, earning silver in the women’s synchronized three-metre springboard event with partner Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu.
Now, Abel vies for her third Olympic medal.
A native of Montreal, Abel won bronze in the individual three-metre springboard at the London Games in 2012 and finished fourth in Rio 2016. Shi Tingmao — Saturday’s runaway leader — won gold in that occasion.
Abel’s fellow Quebec native Pamela Ware failed to move on to the final, posting a score of 245.10 and finishing in 18th place on Saturday.
