Canadian Zsombor-Murray qualifies for men's 10m platform diving semis

Nathan Zsombor-Murray posted a score of 443.85 in the preliminary round of the 10-metre platform diving competition in Tokyo, good for a spot in the event's semifinals.

Zsombor-Murray's score on Friday was the preliminary round's fifth-best. A total of 18 divers moved on to the next stage, scheduled for Friday, 9 p.m. ET.

A Montreal native, the 18-year-old Zsombor-Murray already has a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympic Games, reaching the podium in the men's synchronized 10m platform event with partner Vincent Riendeau.

Nineteen-year-old Rylan Wiens fell just short of qualifying, posting the 19th-best score at 366.70.

China's Yang Jian ran away with Round 1, posting a mark of 546.90 to finish in first place.
