Sweden's Niklas Edin wins gold in men's curling at Beijing Olympics

Sweden’s Niklas Edin has captured the gold medal in men’s curling at the Beijing Olympics.

Edin defeated Great Britain’s Bruce Mouat 5-4 in an extra end in the final on Saturday.

The Swedish skip now has a full set of Olympic medals — bronze from Sochi 2014, silver from Pyeongchang 2018 and gold from Beijing 2022.

Canada’s Brad Gushue won bronze with a win over 2018 champ John Shuster of the United States on Friday.

Edin, also a five-time world champion, had hammer in the extra end and didn’t have to throw his last rock after Mouat just missed an angle raise.

Edin made two great shots to force Mouat to take a single in the 10th, forcing an extra end.

Mouat, who was making his Olympic debut, won silver at last year’s World Championship.

Great Britain’s Eve Muirhead faces Japan’s Satsuki Fujisawa in the women’s final on Saturday at 8:05 p.m. ET.
