It's a long-standing tradition for local Olympic organizers to hide certain details about the opening ceremony.
In today's social-media world, of course, that leads to all sorts of rumours.
The latest buzz, which gained traction because of reporting by several French outlets on Tuesday, centres around whether Canadian pop star Celine Dion will perform on Friday as the Paris Games kick-off.
Toronto Star reporter Allan Woods, who is in Paris, says French media are reporting Dion's private jet landed in Paris on Tuesday and that she has a fitting planned for with Dior.
There are various unconfirmed videos on X of Dion arriving in Paris.
Dion, 56, was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome in 2022. She hasn't performed a concert since early March 2020 in Newark, N.J., days before the pandemic essentially shut down the world.
Dion was in sports headlines earlier this month when she was on the NHL Draft stage with her beloved Montreal Canadiens to welcome first-round pick Ivan Demidov to the team.
The opening ceremony is set to take place on the Seine river with a floating parade of boats with the athletes — the first time the event will not mostly take place in a stadium.
Around 300,000 spectators are expected to be in attendance.
Canada is expected to announce its flag-bearers on Wednesday.
Watch the opening ceremony on Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET / 10:30 a.m. PT on Sportsnet or Sportsnet+.
