Make it two gold medals in as many days for Canadian male athletes at the Tokyo Olympics.
Damian Warner made history on Thursday by becoming Canada’s first Olympic champion in the decathlon and surpassed the 9,000-point mark, an Olympic record, in doing so. Given that the event is the ultimate test for athletes, Warner has earned a fitting title from Canadians on Twitter this morning.
Here are the best reactions to Warner’s historic feat.
Olympic Gold, for Damian Warner!
9018 points. For perspective, he’s the 4th decathlete ever to go over 9000. It’s an Olympic Record.
His 100m, 110mH and long jump were 100% world class.
By definition, he’s Canada’s greatest ‘Athlete’. Extraordinary achievement! https://t.co/M3dP3wEMDB

Most athletes would be happy to be talented enough to be good at one event in the Olympics. Damian Warner is good at TEN of them and is an Olympic Champion. What an athlete – sheeeeesh!
