Canada’s Katie Vincent, Sophia Jensen qualify for canoe semifinals

Katie Vincent and Sophia Jensen earned some rest on Thursday at the Olympics.

The Canadian canoeists bypassed the quarterfinals and advanced directly to Saturday’s semifinals by winning their respective heats in the women’s C1 200-metre event.

Jensen, 22, won Heat 3 in 46.80 seconds in her Olympic debut, while Vincent took Heat 4 in 47.22 seconds.

Vincent, from Mississauga, Ont., won bronze in this event at last year’s world championships and gold in 2021. She was eighth at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago.

Vincent, 28, and Sloan MacKenzie also have qualified for the women’s C2 500-metre semis on Friday.

Jensen, from Chelsea, Que., was sixth in the 200 at last year’s world championships.
