Canada’s Summer McIntosh won an bronze medal in the women’s 200-metre freestyle on Wednesday at the world aquatic championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
The 16-year-old McIntosh, from Toronto, was coming off a disappointing fourth-place finish in the 400-metre freestyle in her first swim of the meet.
Australia’s Ariarne Titmus, who won the 400 freestyle earlier this meet and was Olympic champ in this event in Tokyo, settled for silver behind fellow Aussie Mollie O’Callaghan.
O’Callaghan set a world record of one minute, 52.85 seconds.
McIntosh had a world junior record time of 1:53.65
McIntosh won four medals, including two gold, at last wear’s world championships in Budapest but did not compete in the 200 freestyle.
Also Wednesday, Canadians Molly Carlson and Jessica Macaulay won silver and bronze, respectively, in the women’s 20m high diving competition.
