One day after turning 21, Savannah Sutherland qualified for the women’s 400-metre hurdles on Tuesday at the Olympics in Paris.
Sutherland, from Borden, Sask., finished fourth in her semifinal heat, but her time of 53.80 seconds was the sixth-fastest, moving her on to Thursday’s final at the Stade de France.
American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the world and Olympic record holder, had the fastest time on the day with 52.13.
Sutherland won bronze at the 2021 World U20 Championships and gold last year at the NCAA championships with a time of 53.26 seconds while competing for the University of Michigan.
