Canada’s Caeli McKay and Vincent Riendeau won silver in the mixed 10-metre synchro platform at the FINA Diving World Cup on Monday.

McKay and Riendeau, from Pointe-Claire, Que., finished second with 301.20 points. China’s Yajie Si and Junjie Lian won gold (353.31) and Russia’s Valeriia Belova and Sergey Nazin took bronze (299.88).

"We’re really excited," said McKay. "We haven’t trained that much together. We just put everything together around three weeks ago."

McKay and Riendeau struggled with the compulsory section, sitting in eighth place after two of five dives. But the Canadians moved into third place before edging the Russia pair with their final dive.

"Caeli is an extremely powerful diver," said Riendeau. "She is one of the women who jumps the highest. So for me, doing synchro with her makes the task a little easier to time because she’s able to match my height in the dives."

Competition continues Tuesday.
