BUDAPEST, Hungary — Canada was edged 11-9 by Russia in the women’s water polo bronze medal game at the world aquatics championships Friday.

Monika Eggens had four goals for the Canadians while Emma Wright added three and Joelle Bekhazi and Hayley McKelvey each added singles.

Eggens was Canada’s top offensive weapon at the tournament, finishing with 20 goals.

The fourth-place finish was seven spots higher than where the Canadians ended up at the last world championships in 2015.
