Two gymnastics judges banned from Olympics

LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Two gymnastics judges have been banned from the London Olympics by a disciplinary panel investigating mistakes during the women’s event at last fall’s world championships.

The International Gymnastics Federation did not identify the judges or the event in which the errors occurred, saying only that the judges had been found "guilty of negligence in the line of duty." It also said the judges had violated the federation’s Disciplinary Code, which requires officials to abide by all rules and prohibits "anti-sport behaviour."

No American gymnasts were affected by the judging errors. FIG spokesman Philippe Silacci had earlier told The Associated Press that world championships results and medals would not be revised.
