USA Hockey announced its 2018 Olympic rosters on Monday, and cameras caught one of the selectees sharing an emotional moment with his father.
Milwaukee Admirals forward Bobby Butler was at practice when he called his father down to tell him the good news:
TFW you tell your dad that you’ve made the US Olympic Team #TeamUSA pic.twitter.com/ASoOYYXS4Z
— Milwaukee Admirals (@mkeadmirals) January 1, 2018
The emotional embrace, along with Butler’s Admiral teammates cheering in the background, made for quite a scene.
Butler hasn’t played in the NHL since appearing in two games with the Florida Panthers in 2013-14. The undrafted 30-year-old played parts of two seasons with the Ottawa Senators, scoring a 10 goals and 21 points in 36 games in 2010-11.
For all the disappointment that came with the NHL’s decision to skip Pyeongchang this winter, Butler’s moment with his dad serves as a nice reminder of all the opportunities that will come for those who would likely never have had such a chance.
