In the wake of another high-profile defection to LIV Golf, Canadian golfer Mackenzie Hughes is the latest PGA Tour member to sound off on how divisive men's professional golf has become.
In a thread of posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, Hughes wrote, "Men’s professional golf is in a sad place. The direction it's headed right now isn't healthy or good for the sport."
The PGA Tour regular added that "LIV has overvalued the worth of golfers so much that it has ruined our perspective, and pushed purses to unsustainable levels. The marketplace seems broken."
Hughes' posts came on the heels of the news that top-ranked golfer Jon Rahm accepted a rumoured offer of upward of $800 million to join LIV. Hughes added "watching the top players split into separate camps ... is frustrating to watch."
The PGA Tour and LIV Golf are reportedly working on a partnership, previously setting a Dec. 31 deadline to reach a deal.
