The RBC Canadian Open is on the move, and not just geographically.
The PGA Tour released its schedule on Wednesday and the national men's golf tournament has been shifted back to the week before the U.S. Open and just after the Memorial.
Coming after the Jack Nicklaus-hosted event, which is played at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, should make for a short trip to the Canadian Open, which will be hosted for the first time at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (North Course) from June 2-8.
The Canadian Open went through a stretch of 11 years, from 2007 to 2018, when it was scheduled after the Open Championship. The long travel for players coming off a U.K.-based event affected the tournament's ability to attract some of the game's biggest names.
In 2019, the tournament was moved to between the Memorial and U.S. Open and stayed there for 2021 and 2022 after being cancelled for two years because of the pandemic. This past year, it was shifted to the week before the Memorial.
Scotland's Robert MacIntyre won the 2024 tournament at Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ancaster, Ont., by one stroke over American Ben Griffin.
In 2023, Nick Taylor became the first Canadian to win the Open since Pat Fletcher in 1954, holing a 72-foot putt for eagle on the fourth playoff hole to beat England's Tommy Fleetwood at Oakdale Golf and Country club in Toronto.
