AUGUSTA, Ga. — Mike Weir has long been the owner of a green jacket.
And now, he’s added a red golf bag.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Weir and Rogers have entered into a new, all-Canadian partnership.
Rogers will be working with Weir to bring Canadians closer to golf as a member of Team Rogers through various golf events.
Weir said it’s an honour to be able to partner with “such an iconic brand” moving forward, especially through a very special 2024 with Weir returning to Calgary for the Shaw Charity Classic presented by Rogers and then, just a few weeks later, captaining the International Team at the Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal.
“To kick it off here at Augusta National is awesome,” Weir said of his new partnership. Weir teed off this week at Augusta National with a branded golf bag decked out in bold Rogers red with the company logo.
The partnership with the eight-time PGA Tour winner builds on Rogers’ commitment to golf and supporting the game in Canada. In December, Rogers announced a new five-year deal as title sponsor of the Shaw Charity Classic presented by Rogers.
The tournament has raised more than $112 million for local charities since the tournament’s inception.
“What they’ve done with the PGA Tour Champions in Calgary — hopefully we can continue to enhance that,” Weir added. “It’s been great already but, hopefully, we can do more things around that event, and possibly more, down the road. There are some exciting things that will continue to evolve over the next few years with our partnership, and I’m very excited to get going with it,” Weir said.
Weir is competing in his 25th Masters this week. He spent Tuesday playing a nine-hole match alongside the other three Canadians in the field (he said he and Corey Conners nipped Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor in an Ontario vs. British Columbia match) and would love nothing more than to see another Canadian join him in Champion’s Locker Room at Augusta National.
“They’re all that good. … That could just be a roll of the dice who’s going to win one, but they’re very capable,” Weir said of his countrymen. “They’ve got all the tools. You’ve just got to have one of those magical weeks.”
Weir played in Thursday afternoon’s opening round of the 88th Masters alongside Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune and American Neal Shipley.
