The Professional Women's Hockey League unveiled its logo as it gears up for its inaugural season.
The league introduced the logo on social media Tuesday morning with the caption: "Bold. Powerful. Undeniable."
The purple, stylized "W" logo features two hockey sticks and a puck in the middle.
“We love the prominence of the ‘W’ used in a clean and strong design that celebrates PWHL trailblazers and their legacy across women’s sports,” Stan Kasten, PWHL advisory board member, said in a statement. “When people see the logo, they will recognize how it represents women and immediately know it’s about hockey. The ‘W’ symbol speaks for itself but offers versatility to fit nicely when used inside our PWHL lettering.”
Boston’s Hilary Knight, Minnesota’s Kendall Coyne Schofield, Montreal’s Laura Stacey, New York’s Abby Roque, Ottawa’s Brianne Jenner and Toronto’s Blayre Turnbull all teased the new logo on social media. Each player posted a portion of the logo in their posts.
Baltimore-based Younts Design Inc. — which has worked with other sports organizations such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies — designed the logo.
Training camps for the Professional Women's Hockey League season open Nov. 15. The inaugural season is slated to begin Jan. 1, 2024.
