Defender Allie Munroe and PWHL Toronto have agreed to contract extension that runs through the 2025-26 season. Meanwhile, a few hours later, the team announced that goaltender Erica Howe is hanging up the skates.
ALLIE MUNROE
The 27-year-old Yarmouth, N.S., native will be returning for two more years with Toronto. During the league's inaugural season, Munroe was an important defensive presence on the blue line for Toronto. Offensively, she tallied one goal and five assists through 24 regular-season games. Appearing in five playoff contests, Munroe tallied an assist while averaging 21:43 minutes of action.
Munroe played four seasons with Syracuse University, from 2015-2019, and donned the 'C' in her final year. She followed that up by playing two seasons in Sweden in the SDHL with Djurgårdens IF, before coming back to North America and suiting up for the Connecticut Whale of the PHF for another pair of seasons.
ERICA HOWE
The veteran goaltender from Orleans, Ont., announced on Thursday that she has decided to call it a career. This past season with Toronto, the netminder played in five games, starting in three of them. With a record of 1-1, she closed out the campaign with a .921 save percentage along with a 1.89 goals-against average.
Howe played for four years at Clarkson University from 2010-2014 where she dominated. Through her first three years she averaged a .929 save percentage and a 1.78 goals-against average. In her final year, she was a brick wall. Starting in 41 games throughout, she ended with a .941 save percentage and a 1.10 goals-against average along with a staggering 14 shutouts.
She would then go on to play in the CWHL with the Brampton-then-Markham Thunder from 2014-2019. Throughout her time there, she kept up with her elite play, posting a .917 save percentage with a 2.66 goals-against average across 80 games in her CWHL career.
BETWEEN THE PIPES, GOING FORWARD
Remaining between the pipes for Toronto is Kristen Campbell who is still on the books for two more years. She finished this season with a record of 16-6 through 22 games, posting a .927 save percentage alongside a 1.99 goals-against average.
Last year's third string, Carly Jackson, could take over the backup role but will be looking for a new contract as her one-year deal expired at the end of this season. Jackson last played for the Toronto Six of the PHF and posted a .926 save percentage with a 1.90 goals-against average.
