The top pick from the 2024 PWHL Draft doesn't have a contract, but that might change soon.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on "Saturday Headlines" during Hockey Night in Canada that Sarah Fillier is nearing a deal with the New York Sirens.
With training camps opening on Nov. 12, there is some urgency to get a deal done for Fillier, who the Sirens selected first overall in June.
New York had a league-worst record during its inaugural season.
Fillier is a three-time Patty Kazmaier college player of the year finalist, and completed her four-year career at Princeton ranking sixth on the school's list with 93 goals, and fourth with 193 points in 120 games.
Internationally, the 24-year-old won gold at the 2022 Beijing Games, finishing second in the tournament with eight goals, and was also a member of three Canadian world championship teams.
Fillier did end up putting pen to paper on a contract of a different sort this week — agreeing to an endorsement deal with Gatorade.
