The Toronto Sceptres and Ottawa Charge completed the first trade of the 2024-25 PWHL season on Monday night with a four-player swap.
Toronto is acquiring forward Hayley Scamurra and defender Savannah Harmon to Ottawa in exchange for forward Victoria Bach and defender Jocelyne Larocque.
Scamurra has spent the past two seasons with the Charge after being selected 29th overall in the inaugural PWHL Draft. In 2023-24, she had five goals — including the first in Ottawa's history — and five assists through 24 games. She has yet to record a point in 2024-25.
The 30-year-old has been a member of the U.S. National Team since 2018, helping her country to a silver medal in the 2022 Olympics.
Like Scamurra, Harmon has been with Ottawa through the PWHL's first two seasons. She was the franchise's first-ever selection, going fifth overall. Last year, she had three goals and nine assists while registering a minus-2 rating on the Charge's blue line. She has also been held pointless through six games this season.
The 29-year-old Clarkson University grad is also a member of the U.S. National Team and won silver with the Americans in 2022, scoring a point per game in the tournament.
“Trading any player is a difficult decision,” Ottawa Charge general manager Mike Hirshfeld said in a release.
“Savannah was our first-ever first-round draft pick, and we appreciate all that she did for our organization and wish her the best of luck with Toronto. Hayley will always be remembered as the first player to ever score a goal for the Ottawa Charge.”
Larocque will join the Charge's defence core just a little over a year after Toronto made her the first draft pick in franchise history. She was selected second overall.
The 36-year-old had two assists for the Sceptres before the deal. In 2023-24, she has 10 points and a plus-8 rating.
Larocque has been a consistent presence on the Canadian National Team, playing with the program since 2008, appearing in 105 games.
Bach completes the package going to Ottawa. The Boston University alumna was Toronto's seventh-round pick in the 2023 PWHL Draft. The 28-year-old has one goal this season after totalling five points in the 2023-24 regular season for Toronto.
The Milton, Ont. native made her Canadian National Team debut in 2017, and has helped Canada win gold at three separate events.
The Sceptres and Charge are tied for fourth in the PWHL standings with identical 2-3-1 records. They are set to square off in Toronto in a New Year's Eve battle on Tuesday night.
