Toronto left-wing Emma Maltais, Boston centre/left-wing Alina Müller and Minnesota right-wing Grace Zumwinkle are the finalists for the PWHL rookie of the year award, the league announced Tuesday.
Players eligible for the award must be competing in their first season of professional hockey in North America and begin the season in their 25th birth year or younger.
Maltais had four goals and 15 assists in 24 games, finishing in a tie for seventh in league scoring with Zumwinkle.
A native of Burlington, Ont., she averaged more than 18 minutes a game on the season for a Toronto squad that finished first overall in the PWHL standings.
The Swiss-born Müller led Boston with 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) in 24 games.
Zumwinkle, a Minnesota native, had 11 goals and eight assists in 24 games.
An 18-member committee voted for the award. The winner will be announced in June.
