Spooner, Poulin, Carpenter named finalists for PWHL’s Billie Jean King MVP award

Toronto’s Natalie Spooner, Montreal’s Marie-Philip Poulin, and New York’s Alex Carpenter are the finalists for the PWHL’s inaugural Billie Jean King MVP award, the league announced Thursday.

Spooner led the league with 27 points (20 goals and seven assists) in 24 games. Her seven power-play goals were more than double the next highest total and she also had the most shots on goal with 101.

Poulin finished the regular season tied for second in scoring with 23 points (10 goals and 13 assists) in 21 games. She had a league-leading four three-point games and 57.9 faceoff winning percentage.

Carpenter tied Poulin for second in scoring with 23 points in 24 games, including a league-leading 15 assists. Her a six-game point streak (five goals and three assists) was tied for the longest streak in the PWHL this season.

An 18-member selection committee voted for the award during the break in play between the regular season’s end and the beginning of the playoffs. The three players who received the most voting points were named finalists. The winner will be announced in June.
