STOCKHOLM — Sweden coach Janne Andersson has signed a contract extension through to the European Championship in 2024.

Andersson took over as coach in 2016 and led Sweden to the quarterfinals of the 2018 World Cup — his only major tournament in charge so far.

Sweden also qualified for Euro 2020 under Andersson. That tournament has been pushed back a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The successes and achievements that Janne and his staff have achieved speak for themselves,” said Hakan Sjostrand, secretary general of the Swedish Football Association.

“Janne also has a leadership that fits well with us at the federation. We always strive for continuity and believe that the long-term and stability we now get will be good for our national team activities.”
