A takeover years in the making has reached its conclusion as the recently relegated Leeds United announced Friday that 49ers Enterprises has assumed ownership of the ailing club.
49ers Enterprises had to buy out Andrea Radrizzani, who purchased the side in 2017 and oversaw its rise to and fall from the Premier League.
After earning promotion for the first time in 16 years in 2020, the storied club went 7-21-10 this season while using four managers en route to a 19th-place finish and relegation.
The sale includes the stadium, Elland Road, which had been held privately by Radrizzani.
49ers Enterprises is an investment fund owned by the York family, who also own the San Francisco 49ers.
The Athletic reported that at least 11 major investors constitute the consortium that 49ers Enterprises martialled to buy Leeds. There are also a number of minority investors, including some professional athletes.
49ers Enterprises initially bought into Leeds in 2018 and has increased its share since. Before this latest deal, it owned 44 per cent of the club.
The club was valued at nearly $630 million while it remained in the Premier League, but in light of its relegation, that number has been cut to around $210 million.
49ers Enterprises has $6 billion in assets under management and an aggressive plan to expand the stadium.
