CF Montreal unveiled a new logo on Friday, which will be used beginning in 2023.
The logo pays homage to previous Montreal Impact crests, with the fleur-de-lys, shield, the dominance of the colour blue and 1993, the year of the team's inaugural season.
“Today, we are turning another important page of our history,” said CF Montréal chairman Joey Saputo in an official statement. “A few months ago, we began to reflect on our identity, as well as our logo, and concluded that a realignment was necessary. The employees, fans, and partners we met clearly expressed their desire to reinstate certain elements that have marked the Club's history and are at the heart of our identity. We heard them loud and clear, and we are proposing a logo that meets those requests.”
Montreal rebranded from the Impact to CF Montreal before the 2021 season amid criticism from supporters, chiefly the club's ultras who published a letter and petition requesting the club revert to its previous name.
Montreal is in fourth place in MLS' Eastern Conference with 20 points and advanced to the semifinals of the Canadian Championship on Wednesday after coasting past Forge FC in the quarters on Wednesday.
