Toronto FC and left-back Domenico Criscito have come to a mutual agreement to terminate his contract with immediate effect, spelling the end of his time in Canada, reported by Sky Sports' Fabrizio Romano.
Criscito, 35, was signed by Toronto FC on June 29 as part of an influx of Italian players joining the MLS outfit along with Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi.
After mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with Genoa on June 24, 2022, Criscito joined Toronto FC on a free transfer, taking up an international roster slot on a Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) contract through 2023.
Since joining Toronto, the defender played in 15 games, starting in 14, and scored one goal during that time in a match against New England Revolution on Aug. 17.
According to Romano, Criscito is set to return to Italy, though no decision has been made up to this point concerning his playing career.
Prior to joining Toronto FC, Criscito played the majority of his career between Zenit Saint Petersburg of the Russian Premier League and Genoa of Serie A in Italy.
He has also played 26 games for Italy, including being named the starting left-back for the Italian side at the 2010 World Cup.
