The Montreal Impact has acquired striker Mason Toye from Minnesota United in exchange for $150,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) for 2020, $450,000 in GAM for 2021 and a 2021 MLS SuperDraft second-round pick, the team announced on Thursday.
Toye, 21, was selected seventh overall in the 2018 SuperDraft by Minnesota. He’s scored seven goals in 42 career regular-season games (17 starts).
“We are happy with the acquisition of Mason, who fits the profile we wanted, meaning a striker who can score and who has already demonstrated what he’s capable of in this league,” said Impact sporting director Olivier Renard. “This addition is also in line with our sporting philosophy of having young players with high potential in the squad.”
The Impact is currently riding a four-match losing streak where it has scored just four goals in those matches.
Toye will join the team in New Jersey and should be available for the Impact’s game on Oct. 7 against the Columbus Crew.
