Arsenal and Brazil forward Gabriel Jesus is reportedly undergoing knee surgery after getting injured at the World Cup and could miss several months according to Mike McGrath of the Daily Telegraph.
Jesus injured his knee in Brazil's 1-0 loss to Cameroon on Friday, Dec. 2. and had to be subbed off in the 64th minute.
However, there were rumours that the injury was sustained prior to the tournament and the forward was playing on an injured leg. Brazil manager Tite called those rumours "evil lies."
Prior to starting the game against Cameroon, Jesus had come on late as a substitute in the group games against Serbia and Switzerland. He registered one shot on goal in the game against Cameroon.
Arsenal signed the Brazilian forward from Manchester City for €52.5 million Euros ($54.8 million US Dollars) to play as their lead striker. He has five goals and six assists in 14 games so far this season and has helped Arsenal claim top spot in the Premier League.
With the transfer window right around the corner, the Gunners will likely need to replace Jesus' production if they intend to continue their campaign. He has started every game for the side this season and will potentially have to deploy youngsters Eddie Nketiah or Manquinhos at the position.
